We must also understand that it is hypocritical to accuse Iran of pursuing a nuclear weapons program while the United States and Russia have thousands of nuclear weapons. We have no credibility to discuss non-proliferation issues with anyone while we have nearly half of the world's nuclear weapons.
It is also hypocritical to assume Iran would use nuclear weapons when we are the only nation on earth who has ever used them. Iran has stated at least publicly they do not want nuclear weapons. Whether they do or not want nuclear weapons should not be an issue coming from nations that already have enough nukes to destroy the earth 10 X over! We must stop supporting dictators because we think it is in our interest. In the long term it is not. If we hope to influence change we must relate constructively, take responsibility for our actions or continue to suffer grave consequences. Given the security vulnerability of New Jersey citizens, we should all petition the government to get our foreign policy on the best possible track. We are still operating under the same blind assumption that if we track down Al Qaeda or Taliban leaders, we won't be terrorized. If we captured or killed Bin Laden, he would be seen as a martyr and Al Qaeda recruitment will increase many times more! This current philosophy also ignores poverty, the Israeli-Palestinian factor and our support for dictators in the Middle East. We are not poor, innocent bystanders who people hate for no legitimate reason! No doubt there are those who wish us ill. But, it serves no useful purpose to focus solely on their shortcomings. It is common knowledge in international relations that in the case of Iran our government has perpetrated many misdeeds since 1953. The CIA supported the Shah, deposed the President and brutalized legitimate political opposition! And has never taken any serious responsibility for these acts! It is no surprise we have problems with them. It was predictable. Beyond lingering issues from the past, it is important to understand that we invaded 2 of Iran's neighbors. What would we do if a major foreign government invaded Mexico and Canada? The Organization for International Cooperation is a non-profit, non-partisan all volunteer organization based in Marlton, NJ. New Jersey citizens interested in volunteering or joining OIC should call 856-596-6679 for information or see our web-site which is www.oicworldpeace.org
